Race photography

Here are galleries from some older races. I specialize in dirt track sprint car racing and love the non-winged cars, however I got my start in photography with road racing and Indy cars. My photos have been published at Hosehead's Sprint Car Photos & News and in MotoRacing magazine (sadly defunct, RIP John and Pat Kelly).

Tiner Family Classic at Silver Dollar Speedway, September 8, 2011 - USAC/CRA sprint cars and USAC Western States/BCRA co-sanctioned Midgets put on a whale of a show at Chico, CA's famous bullring.
USAC/CRA Sprints and Ford Focus Midgets at Santa Maria Speedway, June 18, 2011 - USAC/CRA sprint cars and USAC Western Ford Focus Midgets raced again on another tacky track on the CA coast.
USAC/CRA Sprints and Ford Focus Midgets at Watsonville, June 17, 2011 - USAC/CRA sprint cars and USAC Western Ford Focus Midgets mixed it up at Watsonville, CA's Ocean Speedway on a cool and foggy night.

Thunderbowl Raceway's Salute To Indy - A small field of USAC/CRA sprinters and the Legends of Kearny Bowl historic racers put on an entertaining show on a hot Memorial Day weekend in Tulare, CA.
J. W. Mitchell Fall Classic - Jim Naylor's seaside oval in Ventura, CA put up $5000 to win, and 45 of USAC's best Midget racers came out to race for it.
14th Annual Budweiser Oval Nationals - Perris Auto Speedway hosts USAC National and USAC/CRA traditional sprint cars in The PAS's biggest race of the year. This year's event showcased some good hard racing, especially on Friday and Saturday nights.
Second Annual Louie Vermeil Classic at Calistoga (CA) Speedway - USAC/CRA traditional sprint cars and USAC Western States Midgets again took to Calistoga's big half-mile on a beautiful Labor Day weekend.

Landscape and travel photography

I love to travel throughout the United States. I'm fascinated by the scenery in the Western US in particular.

September 2008 vacation - My wife Ruth and I took a road trip throughout the Western US and saw some amazing scenery, including:
- the Stonehenge replica at Maryhill, WA (under a full moon, no less!);
- the Ballard Locks of Seattle, WA;
- Yellowstone National Park part one and part two;
- Salt Lake City, UT including a tour of Temple Square; and
- Arches National Park, near Moab, UT.
In September 2001, we took another road trip to the desert Southwest, back when I was still shooting film.

Family and friends

Of course everyone expects me to have a camera handy when I get together with family or friends!

In the summer of 2007, my parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and had a big blowout!
And the week of the anniversary, the whole family gathered at a beach house in Ocean City NJ for a family reunion.

Miscellaneous

I'm a big fan of multi-talented musician Mike Keneally, and I was able to take some photos of Mike and his band at a performance in Hollywood in 1999.
